The Beaches’ New Album Drops This August and the Queer Vibes Are Strong

Blame Brett, but also thank him – The Beaches are releasing another album this August.

If you’re not already obsessed with The Beaches, where’ve you been babes? The Toronto lady band have been busy shredding stages, breaking hearts (not confirmed, but it’s very likely), and casually reinventing modern rock – one petty lyric at a time (this is confirmed). Their guitar riffs? F*cking epic. Their lyrics? Basically free therapy. And now they’re back with a new album, No Hard Feelings, landing August 29th – moody, messy, and just a touch gayer.

If you’re new here, The Beaches are made up of sisters Jordan and Kylie Miller, plus Leandra Earl on keys/guitar and Eliza Enman-McDaniel on drums – basically, a very stylish group you want to be friends with. The name’s a shoutout to their Toronto neighbourhood, but don’t let that fool you, their sound has been compared to a mix of indie-pop, new wave revival, and garage rock revival.

Since dropping their 2017 debut Late Show, The Beaches have scooped up a couple of JUNO Awards, topped the charts with bangers like “T-Shirt” and “Snake Tongue,” and gave us “Blame Brett” (a personal favourite of ours) – a breakup track so pointed it practically comes with a voicenote script. Oh, and they opened for The Rolling Stones. Totally normal behaviour.

The Beaches aren’t pretending to be cool, they just are, and part of that charm is the unapologetic honesty they bring to the stage (and the studio). Case in point: guitarist/synth queen Leandra Earl, who’s GAY has written some of the bands tracks, including Edge of the Earth, which if you have ever gone through a queer break up you will relate to the lyrics, of the push and pull of a queer break up, we especially related to the opening line, ‘She’s a fire sign, and I don’t even know what that means.’

With their new album No Hard Feelings set to be released on the 29th August, promises some more gay anthems that we can all relate to, their single ‘Did I Say Too Much‘ to dating a woman who’s still figuring it out. It’s messy and heartbreaking, but they’ve made it into another banger. They also have a song titled ‘Lesbian of the Year’ which we are VERY keen to hear (but we have to wait for the album release, I’m afraid darlins.’

The No Hard Feelings release means they will be touring again, and with any luck they will make it back to London. We will be there, hopefully we will see you too (although we may not spot you because there will be a lot of queers).
