It’s 1956. The Susan B. Anthony Society for the Sisters of Gertrude Stein has gathered for its annual quiche breakfast, the community centre has just had a makeover, and on the surface everything is picture perfect. Then the nuclear alarm goes off.
That’s the set-up for 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche, the cult comedy heading to Network Theatre in Waterloo for four nights this October. Expect innuendo, an unhealthy devotion to eggs and a room full of women having a very good time. Here is everything you need to know before you grab your tickets.

What is 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche?
Written by Evan Linder and Andrew Hobgood, 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche is a farcical, tongue-in-cheek comedy set in Cold War America. The society’s five members have come together to celebrate their beloved quiche. When the security system warns that an attack is imminent, they have to drop the breakfast plans and deal with what comes next, and a few things that have been kept under the lid come out along the way.
You won’t just be watching from the dark, either. The audience is part of the action, so arrive ready to join the society for the morning.
This production comes from Network Theatre Company, the resident company at the venue that calls itself London’s community theatre. It’s directed by Fiona Cradock, who has one simple pitch:
“Have you ever dreamed of becoming a lesbian for around 70 minutes? You could fulfil that fantasy by coming to our show! You should see 5 Lesbians Eating a Quiche if you like women having fun, eggs, quiche, love, and doom. The Susan B. Anthony Society for the sisters of Gertrude Stein is waiting for you.”
We’re already sold.
Who is in it?
The five members of the society are played by Nikki Claire Durrant as Lulie, the society’s president, Lily Turvey as Ginny, Emily Wollenberg as Vern, Tegan Mordt as Wren and Alethea Shirilan as Dale.

Lulie is also the author of the bestselling textbook ‘Women Can Yes: The History of the Egg’, which tells you most of what you need to know about the level of commitment here.
Fiona Cradock directs, with Layla Jalaei as assistant director. The 1950s wardrobe comes from costume designers Helen Mason and Debbie Lock, so expect the society to be dressed for the occasion.

Why should you go?
The show runs at around 70 minutes, which leaves plenty of time for a drink on the South Bank afterwards. It’s also a rare chance to watch five women take the lead in a comedy that is unapologetically about women, and it gives you a great excuse to round up the group chat for a night out. If you like your theatre silly, sapphic and a little bit rude, this is your night.
