Lesbian Visibility Day is coming. Gal Pals have built a whole festival around it. There is genuinely no excuse.
On Saturday 25th April, Vauxhall Arches will be taken over by Lezzer Fest – a lesbian day festival that is, in their words, a celebration of lesbian nightlife, club culture and community. In our words: 2000 lezzas in a room, ten of the best queer nights the country has to offer, three stages, a queer marketplace, arcade games, a speed mating workshop (yes, really), and an after-party that goes until 4am. This is not a drill.

How did we get here
Lezzer Fest is the brainchild of Gal Pals – the queer dance party founded in 2015 by DJs Xzan and Scarlett Shaney, who have spent the past decade playing female-fronted pop, hip-hop, R&B and queer bangers at everything from Glastonbury to Brighton Pride. After ten years of running nights, they clearly decided a single night wasn’t enough.

The first edition happened last year, also at Vauxhall Arches, and sold out in advance with 1,600 attendees. Co-founder Scarlett put it better than we could:
“Seeing thousands of dykes all in one space was truly a sight to behold.”
So they’re doing it again. Bigger venue, more rooms, expanded capacity, and an after-party with a lineup that’s currently unannounced (which means the speculation can begin).

Who’s playing
This is where it gets properly good. The festival brings together ten dyke nights and collectives from London, Brighton, Bristol and Norwich:
Bumpah, Blackstage, Dykes on Decks, Leztopia, Pillow Princess, Sistermatic, Soft Butch, Strapped, Wildblood and Queenie, and Gal Pals themselves.

Worth noting: Sistermatic is a pioneering Black lesbian night that has been running since the 1980s. Its presence on this lineup is not a small thing.
