Everything you need to know about Alex Scott – from Arsenal legend to who she’s now dating

Welcome back to Everything You Need to Know About… our weekly deep dive into queer icons, women in sport, and cultural heavyweights who deserve their flowers. This week we’re talking Alex Scott: Arsenal legend, England staple, broadcaster, author, queer role model, and now, because why not, an I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! campmate. Read on to find out about Alex Scott’s sexuality, partner, career and more.

So, Who Is Alex Scott?

Alex Scott is one of the most recognisable figures in women’s football, born on 14 October 1984 in East London, raised in Poplar, and eventually becoming one of England’s most-capped defenders.
probably only know half the story.

She’s one of those people who has had multiple careers before most of us manage one:

  • Arsenal star
  • England international
  • BBC and Sky Sports pundit
  • Presenter
  • Author
  • Reality-TV chaos magnet
  • And somehow still very grounded

She also holds an MBE for services to football, which tells you everything about the level she operated at for so long.

What Football Team Is Alex Scott Known For?

In short: Arsenal Women, aka her footballing home.

Alex came through the Arsenal youth system, had three separate spells with the club, and won basically everything there was to win, including the UEFA Women’s Cup (now the Champions League) where she scored the winning goal in the final. Casual.

She also played in the US with the Boston Breakers, and made 140 caps for the England national team, representing the country at World Cups and European Championships. A proper pillar of the women’s game before it was getting the recognition it does now (and deserves).

Alex Scott’s Career (After Football)

Most players retire and disappear for a bit. Alex Scott retired and immediately slotted into everyone’s TV like she’d been waiting for her close-up.

She became a pundit, a presenter, a broadcaster; the woman is everywhere.
BBC, Sky, major tournaments, deep-dives, interviews, Sports Personality of the Year, hosting Football Focus, she basically redesigned what sports broadcasting looks like.

And now she’s on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! Proving that even when you drop a national icon in the jungle, she’s still the one holding everything together.

Who Is Alex Scott’s Partner or Girlfriend?

Alex Scott is openly queer, something she’s spoken about more confidently in the last few years, and she’s currently dating singer Jess Glynne.

The pair were first linked in 2023, then slowly became more public: red carpets, events, soft-launch Instagram stories, all that good stuff. They’re one of those couples who look genuinely matched, both successful, both grounded, both very private until they’re ready not to be.

Before Jess Glynne, Alex had a long-term relationship with her Arsenal teammate Kelly Smith, which she discussed in her memoir How (Not) To Be Strong. She shared that the relationship was intense, formative, and difficult at times, but a huge part of her story.

During I’m A Celeb, she openly said:

  • “I’d had relationships with men all my life, but something was always missing.”
  • “My first relationship with a woman was when I was 17, and I was fighting it.”
  • “For me, it’s always about the connection.”

She’s also been hinting that she would like to get married to Jess Glynne, but she’s waiting for her to ask…

Outside of Football

Off the pitch and away from the cameras, Alex is an absolute overachiever:

  • She founded the Alex Scott Academy to help develop young female footballers.
  • She earned a degree in Professional Sports Writing & Broadcasting.
  • She released her memoir, which instantly became a bestseller.
  • She’s committed to youth work, representation, and opening doors for women in sport and media.

She uses her platform thoughtfully, especially when it comes to racial inequality, LGBTQ+ visibility, and women’s football. We love.

See you for the next one,
