London-based viral queer pop icon FOX GUNN is back, and they’ve brought a bilingual banger with them. Their latest single, ‘shewasn’tlookingforme’, is the flirty, start-of-autumn sapphic anthem we didn’t know we needed.

Blending English, Spanish, and Catalan lyrics, FOX GUNN turns a casual hook-up story into a tongue-in-cheek confession about falling for someone when you least expect it. Self-produced alongside an all-female and non-binary team, the track oozes queer energy and effortless swagger. Recorded at TYX, mixed by Eve Singleton, and mastered at Abbey Road (yes, that Abbey Road), ‘shewasn’tlookingforme’ is the latest taste of their upcoming EP ‘awfully good’, out 24th October.
FOXX’s sound is fun, dark, sexy, and deeply sapphic. An intoxicating mix that’s earned them a fierce online following and a spot on every queer playlist worth listening to. We caught up with them to chat about the new single, their creative process, and why love, lust, and a bit of playful chaos can all coexist beautifully. Read our interview with FOX GUNN below.
Your new single is called “she wasn’t looking for me”. What was the inspiration for writing it?

I wasn’t very original with the title haha it’s literally a song about how my love interest wasn’t looking for me (nor was I looking for her), but unexpectedly falling for each other. It’s all about how we both went into it thinking it was going to be a one-night stand, and how comfortable I was in the ‘player’ role, but quickly realising we caught feelings for each other. I think it’s such a fun track, with flirtatious lyrics and an almost incredulous chorus repeatedly asking her [my love interest] ‘what did you do?’.

You self-produced this track with an all-female and non-binary team. What does that creative environment bring out in you?
Article continues below.
It brings out the very best in me! I think making music (especially songs that talk about your personal life) is such a vulnerable process, and it’s so important to not only trust but feel comfortable with whoever you work with. In an industry that often puts anyone who is not a man second, I’ve found having an all-women and non-binary team behind my tracks is the best feeling in the world.
You’ve described it as a “sapphic anthem” for the end of summer. What makes a track feel sapphic to you?
I think, as a lesbian, anything I make is inherently sapphic. But when it comes to what specifically makes a song feel sapphic, I’d say it’s all about the yearning – there’s nothing more stereotypically sapphic than yearning for someone (and make that feeling into a song? Even more sapphic).
You’ve built a loyal queer fanbase online. What’s the wildest or sweetest fan interaction you’ve had so far?
I think every fan interaction is special in its own way, but the wildest so far is probably people getting tattoos of my lyrics (some in my handwriting!). Also, the fact that people fly from different countries to come to my shows, I will never get over that.
Being born in Barcelona but based in London – how do those two scenes feed your artistry?
I think Barcelona made me the person I am, but London made me the artist I am today. I don’t think the music I make now would exist if I had never moved to London.
You recently performed at Dykonic festival. Tell us about the vibe.
Honestly, 10/10. It was so special (and so needed), and I hope that was the first of many.
You said the bridge has tongue-in-cheek double meanings. Care to spill one of them?
Yes! The bridge has some lyrics in Catalan, my first language. There’s a line (‘amb la meva llengua la tinc embruixada’) that can be interpreted two different ways: the word ‘llengua’ in Catalan means both language and tongue. The full line translates to ‘with my language/tongue I have bewitched her’, since the lyrics before say that my love interest wants to learn my language, it makes sense that she’d be bewitched by it, and I’ll let you guess what the other meaning is.
What can we expect from Awfully Good as a whole?
A mix of emotions and sounds. awfully good is everything I’ve been feeling and thinking over the past couple of years, turned into an EP. During that time I’ve changed so much as a person; I’ve gotten older, I’ve fallen in love, I’ve questioned everything… but I’ve come out of it the most confident version of myself.
When can people see you perform next?
The 12th of November at Colours Hoxton (London), see you there?
Thanks for the chats, we’ll definitely see you there,
