Private View: A Queer, Sexy, and Unsettling New Play Coming to Soho Theatre

If you’ve ever been caught up in a relationship so intense it left a mark (emotionally, not just metaphorically), then Private View might just hit you right in the gut – in the best possible way.

This world premiere from debut playwright Jess Edwards lands at Soho Theatre from 27 November to 20 December 2025, starring two absolute icons: Patricia Allison (Sex Education) and Stefanie Martini (The Gold).

When two women collide in Private View

Directed by Annie Kershaw, Private View is a raw, magnetic look at queer love, coercive control, and that dangerous chemistry that can feel like fate – until it doesn’t.

“You’ve changed me. You’ve fundamentally altered the fabric of my existence.”

That’s the tone. Two women collide, get tangled, and blur every emotional line until it’s impossible to tell where one ends and the other begins. It’s sexy. It’s cerebral. It’s a little bit disturbing. And it’s very, very queer.

The Cast & Creatives

Patricia Allison plays A – you’ll know her as Ola from Sex Education, but she’s also been on stage in Ghosts at the Lyric Hammersmith and Twelfth Night at the Orange Tree.

Opposite her is Stefanie Martini as B, who’s been lighting up screens in The Gold, Prime Suspect: 1973, and The Last Kingdom. Together, they bring this chaotic, consuming love story to life.

Behind the scenes, there’s a powerhouse creative team of mostly queer women. Writer Jess Edwards describes the play as “messy, sexy, electric weirdness”, – which sounds like exactly what we’re here for. Director Annie Kershaw calls it “wild, transfixing, and scarily relatable.”

Private View has already been shortlisted for the Yale Drama Series Prize, the ATG Playwright’s Prize, and the Women’s Prize for Playwriting – so it’s safe to say this debut is one to watch.

Why We’re Into It

We love a play that doesn’t shy away from the darker edges of love – especially queer love. Private View looks like it’ll balance raw emotion with sharp, intellectual storytelling (and probably leave you debriefing over a wine afterwards).

Plus, Soho Theatre continues to be the home for bold, queer, and boundary-pushing work – so you know it’s going to be good.
