Camden Fringe is bringing a new queer comedy to Kentish Town this August, and the title alone deserves your attention: steaks and lesbians.
The show follows Stevie and River, two best friends living in London, as they navigate lesbian heartbreak while trying to cook the perfect steak dinner. It’s a new comedy threaded with tender moments of love, heartbreak and friendship – and it’s out to show the beauty in queer love and the friendships that hold you together through it.
Written by Kitty June Barker, the play leans into stereotypes on purpose: written by a lesbian, about lesbians, aiming to represent the community the way it actually looks rather than how people assume it does. Barker directs alongside Amelia C Owens, with the show produced by Amity Theatre – a predominantly queer company built from the ground up with the support of the queer community behind them.

It’s a world premiere, running for an hour, playing across five nights at the Lion and Unicorn Theatre as part of this year’s Camden Fringe. Fair warning: expect swearing, sexual innuendos and loud noises, and it’s suitable for ages 16 and over.
