Okay people, clear your schedules and stock up on snacks – Netflix is coming in hot with Season 2 of The Ultimatum: Queer Love, and let’s just say… It’s giving messy, emotional, and very, very gay (not sure we’re over the last one to be honest).
If you missed season one (how!?), here’s the gist: one person in the couple is desperate to put a ring on it, the other is busy living their best life and deflecting the marriage question as best they can. So what’s the solution? Do they break up, get married, or… why not go on The Ultimatum? The show takes couples through a testing time, including swapping partners to see if they truly are ready to commit or part ways.
Hosted by JoAnna Garcia Swisher, this wild, cringe-worthy rollercoaster tosses six couples into eight weeks of emotional chaos, unexpected revelations, and more partner-swapping than a 2006 swingers party. Will they say “I do,” or pack their bags for good? Before the drama kicks off this summer, meet the fearless cast risking it all – and their relationships- live on camera, in the name of love. Keep reading to find out who’s throwing ultimatums, and everything you need to know about the fresh faces of season 2.
Meet the couples
AJ & Britney

Ages: 28 (AJ) & 27 (Britney)
Occupations: Administrative Assistant/MC (AJ), Registered Nurse/Entrepreneur (Britney)
First Queer Crushes: Teyana Taylor (AJ), Kehlani (Britney)
Fun Facts: AJ was once a radio personality in Orlando. Britney loves dancing at Caribbean parties and finds comfort in her dog and bunny.
AJ and Britney first met when Britney approached AJ at a club, tapped her on the shoulder, and said, “Hey! I think you’re cute. I like girls. I want your number.” Their connection started on the dancefloor, where they felt instantly in sync. Music has always been a big part of AJ’s life, and connecting through rhythm continues to bring her joy.
Now, after years together, they’re facing a crossroads. Britney has issued an ultimatum, ready to move into the next chapter of their relationship. She wants clarity on whether AJ sees a future together in the same way. AJ, on the other hand, is hesitant about marriage, concerned about coming second to Britney’s ambitious career. For her, it’s not a question of love, but of whether they’re both ready to prioritise the same future.
Haley & Pilar

Ages: Both 29
Occupations: Senior Food Scientist (Haley), Physical Therapist (Pilar)
First Queer Crushes: The five Muses from Hercules (Haley), Princess Kida from Atlantis (Pilar)
Fun Facts: Haley enjoys chocolatiering in her spare time. Pilar made her DJ debut opening for her biggest inspiration, J. Worra.
Together: 10 years
Haley and Pilar met as orientation leaders after their freshman year of college and have been inseparable ever since. Haley was drawn to Pilar’s kindness, drive, humour, and appearance. Growing up in California, Haley’s queer identity was influenced by the NoH8 campaign, and after ten years together, she’s ready for marriage, hoping for a deeper commitment with Pilar.
Pilar, however, doesn’t believe in marriage and sees it as a societal construct. Her feelings are further impacted by the lack of acceptance from her parents regarding her queer identity and relationship with Haley. Despite this, she’s found support and inspiration in the LGBTQ+ community, especially through artists like DJ J. Worra, who encouraged her to embrace her queerness and pursue her passion for music.
Kyle & Bridget

Ages: 30 (Kyle) & 28 (Bridget)
Occupations: Graphic Designer (Kyle), Writer/Bartender (Bridget)
First Queer Crushes: Rachel Stevens from S Club 7 (Kyle), Zack and Cody from The Suite Life of Zack & Cody (Bridget)
Fun Facts: Kyle used to be able to recite every dog breed from The Encyclopedia of Dog Breeds. Bridget has a black belt in martial arts.
Together: Two and a half years
Kyle and Bridget matched on a dating app and quickly hit it off, with Kyle immediately drawn to Bridget’s energy. For Kyle, marriage is a non-negotiable and a meaningful next step. She wants to know Bridget is equally committed to building a shared future.
Bridget, however, doesn’t see the point of marriage but does believe in a forever with Kyle. She felt an instant familiarity and shared sense of humour from their very first date. Bridget’s connection to her queerness started young — at age two, she asked to watch The Puppy Episode of Ellen, thinking it was about a dog, but it ended up being a formative moment.
While they differ on the idea of marriage, their emotional connection and shared history run deep.
Mel & Marie

Ages: Both 27
Occupations: Food Truck Owner/Chef (Mel), Food Truck Owner/Butler/Bartender (Marie)
First Queer Crushes: P!nk (Mel), Sophia Bush (Marie)
Fun Facts: Mel has trypophobia. Marie describes herself as the most extroverted introvert.
Together: Four years
Mel and Marie met as teenagers through a mutual friend, but didn’t start dating until after Marie came out. Mel had always had a crush on Marie and was eager to move out of the friendzone. Since then, they’ve built both a romantic relationship and a shared business, running a popular food truck together.
While Marie is ready to take the next step toward marriage and building a family, Mel feels there are things they need to sort out first. Mel’s ideal date involves travel and trying high-end food, while Marie prefers cosy nights in with wine, a robe, and a good show — The L Word being a personal favourite.
Now, Marie is looking for clarity and direction in their relationship, hoping it leads to a future together.
Dayna & Magan

Ages: 25 (Dayna) & 27 (Magan)
Occupations: Relationship Manager (Dayna), Business Manager (Magan)
First Queer Crushes: King Princess (Dayna), Zenon from Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century (Magan)
Fun Facts: Dayna is left-handed. Magan enjoys untangling necklaces, headphones, and similar items.
Together: One and a half years
About:
Dayna met Magan at a bar and was “immediately obsessed” by her beauty, uniqueness, and fun energy. Despite Dayna’s avoidant attachment style, she’s ready to get serious and plan a future with Magan. A key pop-culture moment for Dayna was Miley Cyrus publicly coming out as queer.
Magan, who identifies with an anxious attachment style, feels Dayna’s push for marriage stems from boundary issues rather than readiness for a lifetime commitment. With a traditional family that’s reluctant to accept her queerness, Magan isn’t sure she’s ready to marry, even though it could signal to her loved ones that Dayna is here to stay.
Ashley & Marita

Ages: 30 (Ashley) & 25 (Marita)
Occupations: Account Manager (Ashley), Account Executive (Marita)
First Queer Crushes: Madison Beer (Ashley), Miley Cyrus or Shay Mitchell (Marita)
Fun Facts: Ashley is extremely spontaneous and loves wild adventures. Marita is an advanced scuba diver and once beat Guy Fieri and his son at go-karting.
Together: Three years
Ashley and Marita first matched on a dating app and instantly hit it off, bonding over effortless conversation and a strong mutual interest. Ashley was quickly sure she wanted forever with Marita, but feels let down by her partner’s emotional inconsistency and attention toward others. Tired of feeling like a second choice, Ashley issued the ultimatum, hoping for commitment and reassurance that she’s enough.
Marita, a self-described romantic and The OC superfan, is holding out for deeper passion and effort in the relationship. While she shares a strong connection with Ashley, she feels romance is lacking and isn’t willing to compromise on what she knows she deserves. Until she sees real change, Marita isn’t ready to say “I do.”
